Academic Legion
The Academic Legion is a voluntary military training programme for students, funded and organised by the Polish Ministry of National Defence. It consists of both theoretical and practical components.
Students of all degree programmes at SAN University who are interested in undertaking non-commissioned officer (NCO) training within the Academic Legion project may submit their applications to the appointed university coordinator, Mirosław Olszewski, appointed by the Rector of the University, Roman Patora. The coordinator is a reserve soldier and a member of the Institute of National Security.

Mirosław Olszewskihas been appointed as the new Coordinator for the Academic Legion. The decision on his appointment was issued by the Rector of SAN University in Łódź.
Students of all degree programmes at SAN University who are interested in undertaking non-commissioned officer (NCO) training within the Academic Legion programme may submit their applications to the newly appointed Coordinator, who—by decision of Professor Roman Patora, Rector of the University—has been appointed as the Director of the Office for Cooperation with the Socio-Economic Environment at SAN. The new Coordinator is a reserve soldier and a member of the Institute of National Security of SAN University.
Upon assuming his duties, the Coordinator informs that, in accordance with the Act of 11 March 2022 on the Defence of the Homeland, voluntary military training within the Academic Legion Schools (SLA) is available to students and graduates who are Polish citizens, both women and men, medically fit for active military service (category A), and with no convictions for intentional offences. The voluntary military training programme may be completed over a period of three years.
In the first year, a participant who completes the training will, upon request, be transferred to the active reserve. A person who does not complete basic training or does not submit an application for transfer to the active reserve will be assigned to the passive reserve.
In the following year, a student who has completed basic training and attained the rank of private may continue training within the NCO module of the Academic Legion School. In accordance with Decision No. 178 of the Minister of National Defence of 19 December 2022, the theoretical part may be delivered remotely (e-learning) by a military university, while the practical part of the NCO module—lasting 21 days—will be conducted during the summer break as part of military exercises in designated training centres, military training units, or military units.
Students interested in the NCO course should submit an application to the university coordinator within the deadline specified by the University, as well as to the Head of the Central Military Recruitment Centre (CWCR) by 31 December.
