About the program

This program is designed for motivated and passionate individuals with a clear vision to pursue international careers in finance and accounting. Studies in finance and accounting are offered for those interested in jobs related to financial and accounting services in the private, public and third sectors, as well as in banking and tax services. Due to the dynamic development of the financial and accounting services market, additionally driven by the outsourcing centers located in Poland that provide services to global companies, the demand for accountants, financial and tax advisors as well as financial controllers is significantly increasing. In this Programme, finance and accounting studies are characterized by a wide range of practical classes, and thanks to cooperation with the socio-economic environment, they enable students to gain professional knowledge, capabilities, and experience that allow them to get an interesting and well-paid job.

In this program, students will acquire knowledge in, among other subjects, basic accounting, financial accounting, cost accounting, corporate finance, public finance, financial markets, banking, insurance, financial calculation and analysis, ethics in business, corporate social responsibility, international accounting, corporate and business law, behavioural accounting, intercultural management. In this Program students will develop a broad understanding of business activity in the field of tools and methods of finance and accounting, and how to apply them to real business situations involving management and decision-making. In this program we highly emphasise the linkage of theoretical concepts with their real-world applications.

Specializations

Accounting and Financial Analysis

Specialization in "Accounting and Financial Analysis" focuses on providing knowledge and practical skills in financial, managerial, tax accounting, and financial analysis. Graduates of this specialization are familiar with the legal framework governing the accounting system and are capable of practically using selected tools of financial and managerial accounting.

 

The specialization prepares students to identify and solve problems related to recording, reporting, and analytical tasks in companies engaged in manufacturing, trading, and service activities. It provides knowledge on the methods of accounting and reporting for small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as simplified forms of business activity records. Students are also introduced to the basics of tax accounting. The program places significant emphasis on the communication of enterprises with their environment through financial reporting – students deepen their knowledge in financial statement analysis and its applications, as well as in the auditing of financial statements by certified auditors. Additionally, students learn how to use accounting knowledge for managerial decision-making.

 

The curriculum also offers practical skills in using the Symfonia accounting software. This enables students to learn how to leverage IT technologies that support accounting department operations.

 

This specialization responds to the challenges of the regional and national labor market by preparing professionals for financial and accounting positions.

Financial Management

Specialization in "Financial Management" provides graduates with knowledge in evaluating investment projects within enterprises, methods and techniques for assessing the creditworthiness of individuals and business entities, passive and active financial relationships between enterprises and the banking sector, the essence and techniques of personal financial management, the structure of the pension system and its products, as well as methods for evaluating the financial condition of business entities through computer-based workshops. Graduates acquire knowledge and skills in financial calculations within a company, the practical use of accounts in enterprises, the construction of financial statements, the functioning of financial markets, the banking sector, the profitability assessment of financial instruments, and managerial decision-making within a company.

 

Upon completing this specialization, graduates are prepared to collaborate with banking and financial institutions, enabling them to work consciously and actively as employees in financial and accounting departments within companies. They are qualified to find employment in a variety of commercial and service enterprises, banks, insurance companies, and financial institutions such as Investment Fund Companies, brokerage offices, Stock Exchanges, hedge funds, as well as in government and local administration units, accounting offices, tax authorities, consulting and auditing firms. Additionally, this specialization provides a solid foundation for pursuing entrepreneurial ventures and starting one's own business.

She graduated from Management Department of Lodz University (specialization in accounting). PhD studies completed at Department of Science on Management of the Lodz University. Part of studies conducted at the Universita degli Studi di Perugia in Italy and at the University of Utrecht in Holland. During 2002-2004 she carried a research within Harmonia Project of the European Union in Lisbon University in Portugal and at the University of Bangor in the UK. In 2006 she received a scholarship of the Polish Government and Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to carry a research at the University of Perugia in Italy. She worked in the project for Ernst&Young and presently is the executor of the research project of Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education on measurement and reporting of intellectual capital within accounting. The results of her research were published in many articles in Europe and in the USA, Brazil and South Africa and were presented at the numerous national and international conferences. Since 2001 she is a member of academic staff at the SAN University in Lodz and since 2004 she is a lecturer at Clark University.

Career

This Programme is designed to prepare students for middle management roles in the accounting and financial sectors. Graduates emerging from this study program will have the right skills to work as specialists in accounting, controlling, and/or finance departments in a wide range of private, public, or third sector organisations, banking, tax services. After several years of experience in such positions, the graduates of this Programme will be well prepared to work in management positions as well as to design and set up their own businesses.
