As part of our field classes with Dr. Kinga Podleśna, who organized our visit as a professional museum lesson led by a guide, we went on a trip to the recently opened Museum of Warsaw’s Praga District, located in a beautiful spot in the Praga district of Warsaw.
The tour began at 9:45 AM. Upon arrival, we were greeted by our guide, who led us through the entire exhibition. In the first room, we admired a model showing what Warsaw’s Praga district looked like in the past. We also learned a great deal about the history of Praga. The walls were adorned with various paintings depicting Old Praga and significant events that took place in this part of Warsaw in earlier times, including a photograph taken from the Royal Castle tower that showed Warsaw’s Praga from a bird’s-eye view.
The next room was dedicated to the Różycki Bazaar, where we could admire items that were sold at the bazaar, as well as old artifacts preserved from many years ago and commonly found in Old Praga. Each of us was tasked with selecting an object that we recognized and describing it in a few sentences. Interested participants shared why a particular object caught their attention and what it reminded them of.
We then descended to the basement, where the walls also depicted events related to the history of Praga. Afterward, we entered a room displaying various Jewish artifacts, such as a fragment of the Wailing Wall, paintings of Rachel’s Tomb, and scrolls of the Jewish Torah.
